Actress Pori Moni has secured bail after surrendering before a Dhaka court in a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud over allegations of assault, vandalism and intimidation.
Dhaka
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman granted her bail on a Tk500 bond
following a hearing on Thursday.
Pori
Moni’s lawyer Nilanjana Rifat Survi confirmed the development.
She
said, “The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman issued an arrest
warrant against the actress on Wednesday. Pori Moni voluntarily surrendered
before the court and sought bail in the case, which was subsequently granted.”
According
to court sources, Wednesday was fixed for recording witness testimony in the
case. The complainant's side had applied for cancellation of the accused's
bail, while the lawyer representing Pori Moni sought an adjournment, citing her
inability to appear in court due to an allergy-related illness.
The
court subsequently granted the complainant's petition, cancelled her bail and
ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant.
Earlier,
on 26 January last year, the court framed charges in the case and ordered the
start of the trial. An arrest warrant was also issued against Pori Moni on that
day, following which she surrendered before the court and secured bail.
