A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against actress Pori Moni in an attempted murder case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur
Rahman passed the order on Wednesday.
According to court sources, the case was
scheduled for a hearing on witnesses. The complainant's side sought
cancellation of bail for the accused, while the lawyer representing Pori Moni
sought an adjournment, stating that she could not appear in court due to an
allergy-related illness.
The court subsequently granted the
complainant's application, cancelled Pori Moni's bail and ordered the issuance
of an arrest warrant against her.
Earlier, on 26 January last year, the court framed charges in the case and ordered the start of the trial. An arrest warrant was also issued against Pori Moni on that day. She later surrendered before the court and secured bail.
In 2024, the investigation officer, Police
Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Dhaka district inspector Md Monir Hossain,
submitted a report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Dhaka, stating
that the allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and her
costume designer Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, also known as Jim, had been
substantiated.
However, the investigation found no evidence
against another accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni.
The Dhaka Judicial Magistrate's Court
subsequently accepted the PBI report and issued summonses asking Pori Moni and
Jimmy to appear before it. They appeared before the Senior Judicial
Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on 25 June 2024 and secured bail.
On 6 July 2021, Nasir Uddin Mahmud, a
businessman and president of the Boat Club, filed the case against Pori Moni
and two others before the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib
Hasan.
The other two accused are Pori Moni's
associate Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni and costume designer Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy,
also known as Jim.
