One of the most talked-about television comedy series, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s “420”, may be set for another sequel. The director has recently hinted at a third instalment, tentatively titled “1680”, following the success of “420” and its sequel film “840”.
The political satire series “420” first aired in 2007 and received an overwhelming response from audiences. After a long hiatus, Farooki returned to the story in 2024 with the film “840”. Now, his latest social media post has sparked speculation about a possible continuation of the franchise.
On Sunday night, Farooki shared a photograph featuring Mosharraf Karim, one of the lead actors of “420”, on social media. The post immediately raised questions about a possible reunion between the director and the actor for a new project.
Adding to the mystery, Farooki captioned the photograph: “420 is done. 840 is also done. Time for 1680? What do you think, folks?”
The post has led audiences to speculate that “1680” could be the next chapter in the franchise, potentially featuring Mosharraf Karim. However, it remains unclear whether the proposed project will be a film or a television series.
When approached for details, Farooki remained tight-lipped, saying, “Whatever I’ve written on Facebook; that’s it. I don’t wish to say anything more at this moment.”
The original “420” revolved around two thieves who arrive in Dhaka and become entangled in the world of politics through a series of unexpected events. The series featured Mosharraf Karim, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Lutfor Rahman George, Sohel Khan and Marzuk Russell, among others.
Released in 2024, “840” explored political developments against the backdrop of a toppled political leadership. The film featured Nasir Uddin Khan, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahriar Nazim Joy, Marzuk Russell and Zakia Bari Mamo, among others.
Farooki’s latest hint has reignited audience interest in the popular franchise, although further details about ‘1680’ are yet to be officially announced.
