After a ten-month battle with a brain tumour and a complicated surgery in Chennai, small-screen actress Tania Bristhy has returned to shooting, marking what she describes as her “second birth”.

The actress, who underwent a challenging medical journey, recently opened up about her illness, treatment and return to acting in an interview. She revealed that doctors had once estimated her life expectancy at just four and a half to five years, leaving her devastated.

In December last year, Tania suddenly developed severe headaches while shooting for a drama. Despite the pain, she continued working for four consecutive days. However, on the fifth day, her condition worsened as she began experiencing severe vomiting and was rushed to hospital. Medical tests subsequently revealed a tumour in her brain.

She initially underwent surgery in Dhaka, but as complications increased, she was transferred to MGM Hospital in Chennai for further treatment. During her second surgery, her condition became critical, and she had to be placed on life support.

Although two months of chemotherapy remain, the actress sought her doctors’ permission to return to work, fearing that staying at home might affect her mental well-being.

She recently resumed acting through director Iksan Rony’s drama “Angshidar”. She plays Sumi, a woman caught in a family dispute with her uncle over property and financial matters following her father’s death.

Tania said the production team, including the director and cinematographer, took special care of her during her first day back on set.

Having overcome significant physical challenges following brain surgery, she now hopes to rebuild her life with the same enthusiasm she had in 2012.
