Country’s first AI-generated film gets censor clearance

Bangladesh’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered film, “Gaap”, directed by Mabrur Rashid Bannah, has received uncut clearance from the Bangladesh Film Certification Board.
The film, which marks a significant step towards integrating advanced technology into the country’s entertainment industry, received an uncut certificate under the short film category. Board members reportedly praised the production and approved its release without suggesting any modifications.
The film features AI visual artiste Ark Shihab, director Mabrur Rashid Bannah, Rizvi Rizu, Sinthia Yasmin Nupur, Mishti Ghosh, Momena Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Rafi and Jahangir Alam in different roles.
Talking about the project, Bannah described “Gaap” as a bold experiment in the history of Bangladeshi cinema.
“When we decided to make an entirely AI-powered feature film, many considered it impossible. However, we remained determined and worked tirelessly using internationally recognised AI tools to create every frame with precision,” he said.
The director described the uncut certification as a major achievement for the production team, demonstrating the possibilities of creating quality cinematic content through technological innovation despite limited budgets and manpower.
“We believe this film will usher in a new era for Bangladesh’s film industry and encourage young filmmakers to explore emerging technologies more confidently,” he added. According to the filmmakers, artificial intelligence played a substantial role in developing the screenplay, creating characters, producing animation, composing background music and designing visual effects.
Bannah also expressed hope that the audience would embrace this new cinematic experience.
Produced by Akbor Haider Munna, “Gaap” is scheduled to premiere on Club Eleven Entertainment’s YouTube channel tomorrow.
