Bangladesh’s popular band Miles’ member and noted singer Hamin Ahmed has been elected to the executive committee of the Asia-Pacific Music Creators Alliance (APMA) as the first Bangladeshi.
The singer will serve on the committee for the 2026–2029 term. His specific position within the executive committee will be announced on 29 October.
Established in 2016, APMA works to protect the interests of music creators across the Asia-Pacific region, raising awareness about copyright, moral and economic rights, and advocating for their interests at the policymaking level.
Hamin Ahmed believes his inclusion in the committee will strengthen efforts to address musicians’ rights and royalty-related issues in Bangladesh.
The committee also includes representatives from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.
According to Hamin Ahmed, APMA addresses challenges including copyright protection, inadequate remuneration for musicians and the growing income disparity between music creators and digital streaming platforms. The organisation also promotes rights-based systems in emerging markets.
Besides his new role at APMA, Hamin Ahmed serves as president of the Bangladesh Lyricists, Composers and Performers Society (BLCPS) and the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA).
