Bangladeshi filmmaker Juboraj Shamim’s second feature film, “Atal” (In Between Living), is set to be screened at the renowned Regent’s Park Gallery in London on 30 October.

The special screening, jointly organised by the Clapham International Film Festival and Larkhall Art Club, will offer a unique artistic experience, with painters creating artworks inspired by the film while watching it.

Clapham International Film Festival Director Simon Ball informed Shamim about the initiative through an email. He expressed interest in introducing the filmmaker’s work to a new audience, adding that some artworks created during the event would later be shared with the director.

Expressing his excitement, Juboraj Shamim said, “Since the beginning of ‘Atal’, I have described the film as a visual painting. I had planned to screen it for Bangladeshi painters, but I never imagined artistes would translate their feelings about the film onto canvas.”

He added that the concept was entirely new to him and that he was eagerly waiting to see how the artists would interpret his film through their paintings.

Shamim first became acquainted with Simon Ball through his debut feature, “Adim”. He expressed gratitude to Simon Ball for organising the innovative screening.

Made in 2026, “Atal” had its world premiere in the “Apocalypse Now” section of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival. It was subsequently selected for the main international competition at Russia’s 19th East & West: Classics and Avant-Garde International Film Festival.

Shamim wrote, directed, produced and edited the film. Nayeem Tushar handled cinematography and played the lead role. Ripon Nath worked on sound, Abdullah Rakib handled colour grading, and Shibu Kumar Shil of the band Meghdol designed the poster.

Shamim’s debut feature, “Adim”, won the Special Jury Award and NETPAC Jury Award at the 44th Moscow International Film Festival in 2022.
