A colourful cultural programme titled ‘Deshiya Sangskritik Sandhya’ was held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium at Farmgate in the capital on Sunday, highlighting the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
The Australian Association of Bangladesh organised the event under the slogan, “Down with foreign culture, protect local culture”, while Auriah Multimedia (Pvt) Ltd produced the programme.
The organisers said they arranged the event to promote love for the country and a sense of responsibility towards Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
The programme began with the national anthem and featured various forms of Bangladesh’s cultural heritage, including indigenous dances, a fashion show, crest presentations to distinguished personalities and musical performances by popular artistes.
Speaking as the chief guest, Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury said the country’s rich culture reflects the nation’s heritage and identity.
“Our culture proves how rich we are as a nation. Archaeological excavations, including those at Mahasthangarh, have revealed a wealth of history,” he said.
He said Bangladesh should build unity among its diverse ethnic communities and move forward together.
In his welcome speech, Auriah Multimedia (Pvt) Ltd Managing Director Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury Shishir said people should preserve and nurture the country’s cultural heritage.

“We must carry our indigenous culture in our hearts and nurture it as we move forward. We organised this programme to introduce our local culture to the younger generation,” he said.
Former KIB secretary general Krishibid Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan said people should highlight the stories of Bangladesh’s soil and its people.
“If we practise our own culture, foreign cultural influences will not find room to enter,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Auriah Multimedia (Pvt) Ltd Chairman Mosleh Uddin Howlader Arif said the company had been working tirelessly to showcase Bangladesh’s traditions and culture on the international stage.
Krishibid Dr Kamruzzaman Kaiser, film producer Khorshed Alam Khasru, Goldsands Group Additional Deputy Managing Director Shimul Chowdhury, Samaj Kalyan Parishad Executive Secretary Kamruzzaman Dulal and Bootcamp CEO Abdul Qayyum also spoke at the programme.
Actor Omar Sani and film director Gazi Mahbub, among others, attended the event.
Shafi Mondal, Atia Anisa and Tasnim Anika performed songs in the final segment, while Subarna Tripura performed a dance. Shanta Jahan hosted the programme.
