Popular actress Mehazabien Chowdhury has secured bail in a case accusing her of embezzling Tk27 lakh and issuing threats after allegedly promising to make the complainant a partner in a family business. The case also led to an arrest warrant being issued against the actress.
Amid the controversy, Mehazabien released a detailed statement on her official Facebook page on Monday, terming the allegations “baseless.” She asserted that there is no evidence to support the claims brought against her and expressed disappointment over what she described as an attempt to tarnish her reputation.
The actress states that an unknown person filed a baseless case against her and her 19-year-old brother in March 2025. In nine months, the complainant has failed to provide the police with her correct contact details or any verified information. He claims to have been in contact with her since 2016 and to have given her 27 lakh taka, but has not produced a single message, screenshot, financial record, agreement, receipt, witness, or any evidence.
His identity documents, including NID, are incomplete, and since the news broke, both he and his lawyer have switched off their phones. He also alleges an incident on 11 February at Hatirjheel in the capital, yet there is no CCTV footage, witnesses, or proof.
Mehazabien says she never received any police or court notice. After learning about the arrest warrant, she followed the legal process and secured bail. She maintains that the allegations are false and believes the truth will come out in court. She urges everyone not to rush to judgment or engage in media trials and expresses sadness that she has to defend herself despite years of dedication to her work.
“The truth will come out in court very soon. Until then, I humbly request everyone please be compassionate, please be humane, and do not engage in a media trial without knowing the truth. After dedicating 15 years of hard work to my craft, my profession and my audience, it is deeply saddening that I have to explain all of this today,” the actress said.
