Expatriate Bangladeshis in Riyadh are reliving the joy of home as Al-Suwaidi Park transforms into a “mini Bangladesh”, filled with music, dance, and vibrant cultural performances.

Bangladeshi artistes are showcasing the country’s rich heritage in the four-day Bangladesh segment of Global Harmony Season 2, which began on Tuesday.

The event is part of a 49-day international cultural festival organised by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Media under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan.

Hosted by actress Pararthana Fardin Dighi and Robiul Haque Zaman, the programme highlights Bangladesh’s music, art, lifestyle, and traditions.

Performers include renowned singers Monir Khan, Humaira Eshika, Belal Khan, Israt Jahan Jui, and Pushmita Mitra, alongside DJ Turin, who has kept audiences energised throughout the event.

Singer Monir Khan, Emran Ahmed, Belal Khan and DJ Turin performed on Thursday evening.

Earlier, on the opening day, Akash Mahmud and Mohammad Imran performed popular songs, while dance and circus acts celebrated Bangladeshi heritage.

Mentioning that she was thrilled to host the event, Dighi said, “It’s my first time hosting a show abroad,  and I feel fantastic connecting so closely with the Bangladeshi community. The audience is amazing. We are grateful to the Saudi authorities and the Ministry of Media.”

Each evening, hundreds of expatriates gather at the park to enjoy the performances. Stalls on the premises sell traditional Bangladeshi food, clothes, and crafts, creating a festive atmosphere reminiscent of fairs back home.

Ziauddin, a Bangladeshi expatriate, said, “We thank both the Saudi and Bangladesh governments for making this possible. Many of us seek moments of joy beyond our daily work, and this event gives us a chance to celebrate together.”

Sarry Shaban, spokesperson for Global Harmony Season 2, told the Daily Sun, “This week we welcome talented Bangladeshi artists to Riyadh.

The event helps Saudis learn more about Bangladesh and its culture. We are proud to host the Bangladeshi community, who are an important part of our Kingdom.”

The Global Harmony Season 2 festival, running from 2 November to 20 December, features the cultures of 14 countries and aims to promote harmony, diversity, and social bonding among Saudi Arabia’s multicultural residents.

The Bangladesh segment will continue until 14 November, offering music, dance, and cuisine that bring a taste of home to the expatriate community.
