The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Social and Cultural Organisation (JASAS) organised a cultural programme at the Central Shaheed Minar on Thursday evening to mark the National Revolution and Solidarity Day on 7 November.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir joined the event virtually as the chief guest.
BNP Acting Chairman’s Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin and BNP Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Ujjal, also a film actor, attended the programme as special guests. Central and local leaders of JASAS, cultural artistes, and activists were also present at the event, which celebrated the historic day through songs, recitations, and performances.
Film actor Helal Khan presided over the programme, while JASAS leaders Zakir Hossain Rokon and other organisers moderated the event. The speakers and guests paid deep tributes to the late President Ziaur Rahman, recalling his leadership and contribution to the nation.
In his virtual address, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that 7 November was a turning point in the history of Bangladesh. He recalled the leadership of the late President Ziaur Rahman, who restored stability and initiated the struggle for citizens’ democratic rights during a time of national crisis.
Calling for strengthened party unity ahead of the upcoming elections, the BNP leader urged all levels of the organisation to uphold the spirit of national solidarity.
Special guests Dr Mahdi Amin and Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Ujjal highlighted Ziaur Rahman’s decisive role in steering the country through difficult times and his lasting impact on Bangladesh’s political reforms. They also recalled Begum Khaleda Zia’s long struggle for democracy and her enduring political leadership.
Speakers at the event emphasised the importance of spreading the message of patriotism and unity surrounding 7 November, and urged transparency and public participation in the forthcoming national elections.
