Culinary delights are an essential part of any celebration. This Eid, relish in the dishes that not only satisfy your taste buds but also evoke cherished memories of family gatherings. Indulge in the sweetness of dishes, but with a little caution.
Ramadan is a month of tranquillity, redemption and celebration. During the month of Ramadan, our food routine changes a lot as our hours of food consumption are defined by the rules of fasting. Fasting leads to a natural detoxification process as the body shifts to burning stored fat for energy, boosting cell repair and improving digestion, while also potentially aiding in weight loss. As we switch back to our usual routine after a month of fasting, we start it with one of the most celebrated festivals in our Muslim culture, the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

With this tempting array of calorie-packed foods, we usually feel bloated at the end of the first day of the Eid celebration. These types of sudden and frequent consumption of heavy food in one day can also cause spikes in blood sugar. For generations, we have been cooking various kinds of heavy foods like Polau, Chicken Roast, Beef/Mutton Rezala, Biriyani, Shemai, Sheer Khurma, Pudding, and other calorie-packed but delicious meals. As tempting as they sound, these foods are typically made with extra oil/ghee, sugar and other rich ingredients to make them festival-worthy.
As we are now living in a more health-conscious era, we might like to reconsider our Eid day celebration with healthy but delicious foods. Let’s explore alternate ways to cook our favourite Eid foods in a healthier way.

As we all know, carbs like Polau and Biriyani are our favourite main dishes for our Eid lunch or dinner, with a must-have protein dish to go with it, like Chicken/Lamb Roast or Rezala. Now, change the menu: instead of Mutton/Beef Biriyani, make Biriyani with sides of grilled-based protein dishes, vegetables, and fresh salads. This will reduce your fat consumption during Eid day and keep your food choices as delectable and enjoyable as before.
Make yogurt-based desserts, like Yogurt Custard, Yogurt Panna Cota, and Frozen Berry-flavoured Yogurt. Yogurt-based desserts will be extremely beneficial for your health, and the probiotic bacteria will help with your digestion, too.

Lastly, we all should remember to consume plenty of water to keep ourselves hydrated throughout the day. For a better and healthier experience, it's good to keep an eye on the treats we are offered during Eid visits – try not to get overboard and aim for a well-rounded and sensible diet.
You can think of Eid as a transitional period back to your pre-Ramadan eating routine. At the end of a whole month of Ramadan and the beginning of our pre-Ramadan routine, we spend three days celebrating with good food, visiting relatives, and spending time with loved ones. So, it is pretty easy to forget about taking care of our bodies, which has undergone a significant change during the entire month of Ramadan.
Let’s try to build up a hobby of eating healthy foods during Eid. Don’t be sad! Eating healthy doesn’t always mean eating tasteless food. We can always get creative and use wholesome ingredients to make delicious, festival-worthy dishes. So, this Eid, eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and be happy!
