Celebrating at home or nearby
A A

Eid vacation is approaching near, and for many, this is the most anticipated break of the year -- a few days with no deadlines or pressure. However, traveling far in such heat might not be ideal for most. For those who still want to make the best of the holiday, here are some fun and relaxing ways to celebrate Eid at home or nearby.
Focus on your home
Are you planning to plant some flowers in your balcony or change the bedroom curtains for quite some time? This is your chance to finally make some much-needed changes around your home. Start with a deep clean to set the right mindset for the holiday. Rearrange furniture to create a fresh look with minimal effort. Adding a chandelier or fairy lights can elevate the ambiance, so will investing in an elegant tablescape. Don’t forget to place light-scented candles in your bedroom and living room to keep the festive spirit alive and thriving.
Eid feast
Recreate the experience of dining out this Eid at home with gourmet Eid meals. Traditional choices like Kacchi Biryani, Chicken Roast, and Beef Kala Bhuna are staples of an Eid lunch. However, to make this lunch truly memorable, try Chicken Kabsa -- an Arabic delicacy made with chicken, tomatoes, rice, and aromatic spices, similar to biryani but without yogurt and garam masala. Pair it with Prawn Malai Curry, Chicken or Beef Kababs, and a light Greek salad including lettuce, feta cheese, tomatoes, black pepper, red onion, and yogurt dressing. And of course, no Eid meal is complete without classic Laccha Shemai after morning Eid prayers.
Family movie or game night
With work and school keeping everyone busy year-round, this holiday is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family. Set up a cozy movie night with popcorn, soft drinks, and chicken popcorn for a true theatre feel. Choose a heartwarming film that suits all generations -- classic Bangla movies can be a great choice. If movies aren’t your thing, try a game night instead! Board games like Ludo, Carrom, or UNO will definitely add an extra dose of excitement to the night.
Family photoshoot
Many families don’t take as many photos as they’d like throughout the year -- change that this Eid! Coordinate matching outfits or wear complementary colours to create a visually pleasing theme. Find a well-lit spot in your home, preferably near natural light or an Eid-decorated backdrop, and set up a DIY photoshoot. Try candid shots of family members laughing, sharing sweets, or opening Eid gifts for a more authentic and joyful collection of memories.
Staycation
If you’re in the mood for an outing, consider a day trip to Panam Nagar (Sonargaon) or Lalbagh Fort (Old Dhaka) for a dose of history. For shorter excursions, take a relaxing stroll at Ramna Park or Chandrima Udyan (Zia Udyan). Alternatively, enjoy a luxurious staycation at resorts close to Dhaka. If you’re looking for relaxation, scenic views, and poolside leisure, Chayabithi Riverview Resort and Greenview Golf Resort are great options. A picnic at Jolshiri Central Park with family and friends could also be the highlight of your holiday.
Hopefully these ideas can get your creative juices flowing. With a little planning, your Eid at home or nearby can be just as exciting as any getaway.
