Eid is a time to reconnect and rejuvenate. Engage in traditions that foster togetherness. Embrace mindfulness this Eid by balancing festive indulgences with moments of reflection, ensuring a harmonious celebration for body and soul.

In this age of TikTok and Instagram, “self-care” makes us think of spa days, scented candles and random indulgences and treats. But all these things just give us temporary relief whereas what we actually need is systematic practice. These rituals may be fun, but self-care actually means long-term wellness. A practical and effective approach to self-care in these modern times translates into quick fixes and deliberate choices that aim to nurture the mind, body and soul.
Prioritising mental health
People have finally started to prioritise mental well-being after years of glorifying the “hustle culture”. Self-care means more than just relaxing every once in a while. It means setting boundaries, recognising emotional needs and practicing habits that create resilience in us. It could mean seeking professional help like therapy, it could mean journaling, or it could simply mean not giving in to digital distractions. Another key part? Learning to say ‘no’ and protecting our time.
Taking care of physical health
Taking care of one’s physical health is of utmost importance. But it means much more than just fitness trends and diet culture -- eating healthy food that gives you strength, staying hydrated, and making sure you get enough rest. Exercise is another aspect of it. It should be rewarding rather than a chore. Working out, stretching or just taking walks; physical activity should make you feel good instead of dreadful.

Lifestyle
Financial and professional well-being
Financial health is another aspect of self-care. People who learn to manage their finances have reduced tensions and increased stability in their lives. This includes learning how to budget, making wise financial decisions, saving and investing money. Similarly, having a work-life balance is also very important. It can be a blessing to have a healthy relationship with work. For instance, having professional boundaries, meaningful career goals and fair compensation and benefits etc.
Meaningful relationships
An important aspect of self-care is human connection. Supportive relationships, meaningful conversations, and a good time spent with family and friends shape our mental health. Self-care isn’t only limited to avoiding toxic people, it could also mean choosing encouragement and seeking out joy in your existing relationships.
Growth and learning
Personal development can be another powerful form of self-care. To create a more fulfilling life, you should explore new places, find creative outlets and intellectual challenges. Growth isn’t easy. But stepping out of our comfort zone is imperative for us to grow as human beings.
Reclaiming rest & joy
Rest is another underrated part of self-care. The hustle culture makes people believe that we are running out of time and over-working ourselves is the key to a successful life. But in truth, taking time for yourself, enjoying hobbies without any kind of external pressure and just being present enough while doing anything – all of these are essential to have a successful and fulfilling life. Self-care, in its true sense, means that rest and enjoyment have to be regarded as needs, not luxuries.
At the end of the day, self-care is all about creating a life that sustains our mental and physical needs, long-term happiness and well-being. It’s an ongoing process of making right choices towards peace, growth and integrity in one’s values. You can pamper yourself from time to time, but true self-care lies in the daily habits that contribute to a happy, healthy and balanced life.
