Abu Taher Khokon is a famous photojournalist. He has captured countless beautiful photos of people and nature in his career. The fame of his work has spread beyond the borders of this country to the outside world. He has received many prestigious awards at home and abroad as recognition of his achievements. This time, however, he has introduced himself in a new way. His first book of poetry titled "Moner Kotha", has recently been published by the publishing house Tangon.

We know that poetry is one of the original mediums of exquisite art. This artistic medium of communication is often very subtle and mysterious. Abu Taher has been mesmerised by the charm and allure of this branch of literature. In his poems, he has tried to express his feelings and emotions and depict the sorrows, hardships, deprivations in society in a simple manner. Love and affection have been the central themes of his poetry. This is reflected in his poems namely “Desher Kotha Vabi”, “Rajar Niti”, “Babara Mayera”, “Prakton”, “Ochol Manush”, “Shanto Hou”, “Bhule Jawa Prokritir Riti” etc.

Abu Taher Khokon has been working as the Chief Photojournalist of 'Bangladesh Pratidin', a renowned Bangla daily newspaper in Bangladesh, since its inception. Earlier, he also worked at media outlets like The New Nation, The Morning Sun, The Financial Express, The News Today and The New Age newspapers.

In his professional life, he has faced dangerous situations every now and then and even risked his life while clicking photos amidst violence. In many cases, he had to work casting aside his personal sorrows and tragedies.

He received some notable awards in recognition of his special contribution to photojournalism at home and abroad, which include the ‘Asia Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO Japan Award 1994, 1995 and 1996’, the ‘United Nations Award Flood in Bangladesh 1998’, the ‘Moments Intimacy Laughter Kinship Award New Zealand 2000’, the ‘China Press Photo Contest Award in China 2004’, the ‘Wisden-MCC Cricket Photograph of the Year 2015-2016, London’, the ‘Zoom-in Poverty Global Photo Contest’, and the ‘Press Foundation of Asia Award Bangladesh and Malaysia Chapter 2002’.

He has travelled to various countries, including America, Australia, Fiji, Singapore, Malaysia, Pakistan, and India, during his photojournalism and writing career. And it is mentionable that earlier in 2016, another book of Abu Taher Khokon titled "Black and White Newsreel Collection" was published in Jackson Heights, New York.
