Three Bangladeshi adventurers have successfully scaled the 6,119-metre semi-technical mountain peak Lobuche East in the Nepalese Himalayas, hoisting the national flag alongside their organisation’s flag.

Kamrul Islam, Turja Das and Naeem Al Nahian reached the summit at 8:50am Bangladesh time on 27 October as part of the Rope4 Mountain Expedition 2026, according to Rope4 Outdoor Education.

The team left Bangladesh for Nepal on 14 October, with Kamrul leading the expedition.

Raising awareness about rapid Himalayan glacier melt and climate change was a key objective. Under the theme ‘The Himalayas are melting, and the responsibility is ours too’, the team conducted a zero-waste campaign, pledging to bring back all non-biodegradable waste.

All three climbers had participated in Rope4’s Mission Himalaya 2024 initiative. Kamrul, a teacher and winner of that edition, previously climbed Nepal’s 5,525-metre Yala Peak on a scholarship. The expedition marked the first Himalayan summit for Turja, a medical student, and Naeem, a teacher and wireless communication researcher.

Another expedition member, Sadiq Ahmed Chowdhury, had planned to climb the 6,165-metre Island Peak but withdrew at the last moment due to illness. He is now in good health, Rope4 said.

After summiting Lobuche East, the three climbers descended safely to Pheriche village and were reported to be in good health.

Rope4 congratulated the climbers, describing the achievement as a milestone for the organisation and Bangladesh’s mountaineering community.
