The government has formally appointed Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury as Bangladesh’s new foreign secretary, replacing Asad Alam Siam, who has been appointed the country’s next high commissioner to India.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a notification formalising Noman’s appointment on Sunday. Ministry officials also bade farewell to Siam and welcomed Noman to his new role.
Noman previously served as Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York from January 2025 and as the country’s ambassador to Nepal.
He also accompanied Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his recent visit to Japan.
Siam took charge as foreign secretary on 20 June 2025 and is now moving to New Delhi to lead Bangladesh’s diplomatic mission in India.
