The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, will visit Bangladesh from 9 to 11 November to strengthen UK-Bangladesh ties, engage with communities and organisations, and highlight support for Rohingya refugees, according to a press release issued by Royal Communications on Saturday.
During her three-day visit, Her Royal Highness will meet the President of Bangladesh and Prime Minister's spouse Zubaida Rahman in Dhaka to discuss shared interests in the welfare, protection and empowerment of women and girls.
The Duchess will also visit the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) to observe Bangladesh's role in UN peacekeeping and highlight the importance of women's participation in peace and security.
At Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), she will meet young athletes, including female hockey players, highlighting how sport can create opportunities for women and girls.
She will also join celebrations marking the British Council's 75th anniversary in Bangladesh, alongside young people, with a focus on education, cultural exchange and women's empowerment.
The Duchess will travel to Cox's Bazar to visit organisations supporting Rohingya refugees. She will learn about protection and support services for women, girls and families affected by displacement, including initiatives to strengthen resilience and leadership within refugee communities.
The visit will also highlight rehabilitation, protection and inclusion services aimed at helping displaced women and children build a future despite their circumstances.
The Duchess of Edinburgh is visiting Bangladesh at the request of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. She previously visited the country in 2017.
