National Revolution and Solidarity Day observed in Rome

The Bangladesh Embassy in Rome on Saturday observed National Revolution and Solidarity Day with due solemnity, highlighting the importance of national unity, democratic values and safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty.

The programme began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag at the embassy premises to the accompaniment of the national anthem, said an embassy press release received here. 

Messages from the President and the Prime Minister marking the occasion were read out, followed by the screening of a documentary.

Embassy officials and staff, Bangladeshi expatriates, business leaders and representatives of various political parties attended the programme.

Speaking at a discussion, embassy officials, political leaders and members of the expatriate community highlighted the historical significance of the day.

They emphasised patriotism, national unity and solidarity, urging everyone to fulfil their responsibilities in building a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh.

The embassy's Charg‚ d'Affaires recalled with profound respect the contribution of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to Bangladesh's democratic advancement.

The Charg‚ d'Affaires urged all to work together to uphold the country's independence, sovereignty, democratic values and national interests.

Expatriate Bangladeshis were also encouraged to contribute positively to the country's development and progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
