Bangladesh’s newly appointed High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Muhammad Abdul Muhith, made his public appearance at the Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) Gala Dinner 2026, attracting attention with both his late arrival and his address to nearly 1,000 guests.
The diplomat arrived after the programme had begun, with most guests, including MPs, former government ministers, judges and prominent community figures, already seated.
Taking the stage, Muhith apologised for his delay, saying: “My apology for being late. Traffic was not very friendly towards me this evening.”
While London traffic can be unpredictable, his late arrival at a major community event prompted observations about the importance of punctuality, particularly for a diplomat representing his country at a public gathering.
However, his presentation and speech drew positive impressions. He appeared confident and composed, delivered a well-prepared address and spoke comfortably before the large audience.
His speech, supported by notes, reflected preparation and familiarity with the occasion, although some guests felt a shorter address of two to three minutes would have been more appropriate given the busy programme.
One of the most warmly received moments came towards the end of his speech when he greeted the audience in Sylheti, saying: “আপনারা সবাই ভালা আছইতো….”
The greeting drew smiles from the predominantly Sylheti audience and was seen as a thoughtful gesture acknowledging the cultural identity of the community.
Overall, his appearance drew a mixed but largely positive assessment, with his punctuality raising questions while his preparation, confidence and cultural connection helped make a favourable impression.
