Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed strengthening cooperation on climate adaptation and resilience, access to climate finance and the renewable energy transition to address shared climate challenges.
The issues featured at a meeting between State Minister for
Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and the UK's Special Representative for
Climate Rachel Kyte in London on Thursday, said a foreign ministry press
release here on Friday.
The discussions covered opportunities for cooperation in
carbon markets and investment in the green and blue economy, alongside efforts
to strengthen climate resilience and accelerate the transition to renewable
energy.
Shama highlighted Bangladesh's ongoing initiatives to enhance resilience, promote renewable energy and encourage community participation in climate action.
Both sides exchanged views on the disproportionate impacts
of climate change on women and children and explored the potential for
collaboration in climate-related technology and innovation.
They also stressed the importance of translating global
climate commitments into practical action.
The meeting reviewed priorities for the upcoming COP31, with
particular emphasis on climate finance, adaptation and enhanced cooperation to
tackle shared climate challenges.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom
Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith was also present.
