Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has sought assistance from the US government in recovering money allegedly laundered from Bangladesh over the past 17 years.
He made the request when a delegation led by Winrock International President and CEO Maqsoda Maqsodi made a courtesy call on him at his office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday.
During the meeting, the speaker praised the organisation’s role in addressing climate change and promoting social protection in Bangladesh, noting that it had maintained a partnership with the country for more than four decades.
Hafiz said Bangladesh contributes relatively little to global carbon emissions but remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate change impacts.
The delegation and the speaker exchanged views on diversifying Bangladesh's ready-made garment industry, promoting environmentally friendly technologies in agricultural production and protecting the human rights of Bangladeshi migrant workers returning from the Middle East and other countries.
