A total of 35 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from three European countries — Italy, Greece and Cyprus.

They landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday (23 October) aboard a special repatriation flight.

Of the returnees, 19 were repatriated from Italy, 10 from Greece and six from Cyprus.

The Embassy of Italy in Dhaka said in a statement that the repatriation flight was operated on Friday under the coordination of Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.

The operation facilitated the return of the Bangladeshi nationals from Italy, Greece and Cyprus to Bangladesh.

The statement also said a “zero-tolerance” policy is followed against illegal entry into and stay in Europe.

The embassy stressed the importance of safe, orderly and legal migration.

It also warned that paying human traffickers, brokers or smugglers to enter Italy without a valid visa is illegal.

Those involved may face repatriation to their home country and a ban on entering Schengen countries as a consequence.
