Bangladesh and Uzbekistan have discussed the possibility of a free trade agreement (FTA) to boost bilateral trade and investment, as State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir met Uzbek Deputy Foreign Minister Aloyev Bakhromjon Juraboyevich in Baghdad on Sunday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 52nd Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baghdad on 17–18 October.

The two ministers discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in several areas, including trade and investment, air connectivity, tourism, reciprocal support in multilateral forums and stronger business-to-business contacts, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka.

They also explored the possibility of concluding an FTA to strengthen economic ties and increase trade and investment between the two countries.

Humaiun Kobir is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting. On Saturday, he delivered Bangladesh’s statement at the plenary session of the council.
