Bangladesh on Saturday called for promoting trade and investment within the D-8, advancing contract farming and introducing visa waiver arrangements among member states to strengthen economic cooperation.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir discussed the priorities at a meeting with D-8 Secretary General Sohail Mahmood in Baghdad, according to a foreign ministry press release.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in the Iraqi capital.
During the meeting, Kobir highlighted intra-D-8 trade and investment, contract farming and visa waiver arrangements among member states as areas for cooperation under the Developing Eight Organisation for Economic Cooperation.
He also suggested restructuring the organisation and undertaking more result-oriented activities to make the grouping more meaningful.
Kobir is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers session.
