Bangladesh on Saturday urged the Organisation of Islamic
Cooperation (OIC) and the international community to continue putting pressure
on Myanmar authorities to ensure the safe, dignified and sustainable
repatriation of Rohingyas to their homeland.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir made the
call while addressing the 52nd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers
(CFM) in Baghdad, Iraq, as the leader of the Bangladesh delegation, according
to a message.
He stressed that OIC member states must remain actively
engaged in addressing the prolonged Rohingya crisis and work collectively to
create conditions conducive to their return to Myanmar.
The state minister said the Muslim Ummah must demonstrate greater unity and take proactive measures to find a sustainable solution to the humanitarian crisis.
He particularly called upon OIC member states and the wider
international community to maintain diplomatic engagement and sustained
pressure on Myanmar authorities to facilitate the voluntary, safe and dignified
return of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas.
Addressing the ministerial gathering, Kobir also called for
a stronger, modernised and more dynamic OIC capable of responding effectively
to the emerging challenges confronting the Muslim world.
He emphasised the need to strengthen the organisation's
institutional capacity, collective engagement and responsiveness to regional
and global crises.
Expressing deep concern over the situation in Palestine,
Kobir called for an immediate end to Israeli atrocities against Palestinian
civilians, particularly women and children.
He reiterated Bangladesh's support for the establishment of
an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
The state minister also expressed concern over the growing
incidence of Islamophobia across the world.
He called upon OIC member states to adopt a coordinated
approach, involving relevant international stakeholders, to counter
Islamophobia and promote mutual respect and understanding among communities.
This year’s CFM carries particular significance as the
ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to severely undermine global
peace and stability and to disrupt supply chains.
