The Russian House in Dhaka organised an educational programme on Friday to mark the 170th birth anniversary of renowned Russian artist Mikhail Vrubel, introducing young Bangladeshi artists to his life, artistic techniques and iconic works.
Students studying
art at the Serov Academy of Fine Arts, representing various educational
institutions across Dhaka, took part in the programme.
The event featured
an audiovisual presentation tracing Vrubel’s artistic journey, from his
academic training to his celebrated Symbolist works, including The Demon
Seated, Pan and The Swan Princess.
Participants were
introduced to Vrubel’s distinctive style, characterised by crystalline,
mosaic-like forms and faceted planes of colour. The presentation highlighted
how his innovative use of colour, texture and geometric shapes helped shape his
artistic language and anticipated certain developments in modern art.
The programme also
explored other aspects of Russian artistic heritage, including decorative
ceramics and stage design, offering participants insights into the country’s
art history and its contribution to the broader development of visual art.
The initiative
reflects the Russian House in Dhaka’s efforts to promote Russian artistic heritage,
encourage international appreciation of the arts and strengthen cultural ties
between Russia and Bangladesh.
