Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

During the meeting, Renggli congratulated Kabir on his assumption of office and expressed confidence that the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Switzerland would be further strengthened.

The two sides discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and investment, including greater Swiss investment in promising sectors of Bangladesh’s economy. They identified economic partnership as a key pillar of bilateral relations and agreed to pursue practical measures to enhance technical and vocational skills development opportunities for Bangladesh’s workforce.

Kabir underscored the importance of regular exchanges in strengthening political, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The Swiss ambassador said the operationalisation of the new Bangladesh Embassy in Bern could help deepen and broaden existing bilateral relations.

The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to shared values, including democracy, human rights, multilateralism, respect for international law and a rules-based international order. They pledged to work together in multilateral forums to uphold these values.

Appreciating Bangladesh’s generosity in hosting a large number of Rohingyas, Renggli reaffirmed Switzerland’s continued support for their voluntary, safe and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.

He also reiterated Switzerland’s commitment to supporting international efforts towards finding a durable solution to the Rohingya crisis.
