Netherlands greets President Fakhrul, seeks to boost ties with Bangladesh

The Kingdom of the Netherlands has extended its warm felicitations to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd president of Bangladesh.

“We wish President Alamgir every success in his new role and look forward to further strengthening the warm and longstanding ties between the Netherlands and Bangladesh,” the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh said in a Facebook post on Friday night.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as the 23rd president of Bangladesh on Friday.

Acting speaker Kayser Kamal administered the oath of office to the newly elected president at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban at 7:30pm.

Ambassador Joris van Bommel attended the swearing-in ceremony, the embassy said.
