India has said it would take all the necessary steps for
extending compensations to the families of people who died in a hotel fire in
Kolkata early Wednesday.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi expressed
New Delhi’s interest in this regard during his meeting with Bangladesh Health
Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain at the Secretariat on Thursday.
India would take measures for facilitating all possible support
to Bangladesh over the deadly crisis, Trivedi added.
Trivedi also expressed his deep sorrow and regret regarding
the tragic accident that claimed the lives of seven Bangladeshis.
Emerging from the meeting, Sakhawat Husain told reporters
that the meeting was simply a courtesy call. During the talks, the issue of
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s return to the country was not discussed,
Sakhawat Husain added.
However, Trivedi said India continues to wait for Tarique’s
arrival in the country.
