The Singapore High Commission in Dhaka concluded a three-day cooking workshop on Tuesday, bringing together 20 participants from the National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (NHTTI) to develop their culinary skills and explore Singapore’s rich multicultural food heritage.

The workshop, held from 10 to 12 August, built on the success of Singapore Cooking Classes organised in 2025 to mark Singapore’s 60th National Day. The latest programme continued the High Commission’s efforts to promote cultural exchange through cuisine.

The same Singaporean chef who led last year’s sessions conducted the workshop, giving participants hands-on training in preparing popular Singaporean dishes, including Hainanese chicken rice, chilli crab, kueh pie tee, Singapore spicy vermicelli, curry puff, ondeh ondeh, nasi lemak and chicken satay.

The programme ended with a friendly cooking competition, where participants demonstrated the techniques and skills they had developed during the three-day course before a panel of judges.

The top three participants received cash prizes of Tk15,000, Tk12,000 and Tk8,000 for first, second and third place, respectively. The other two groups received consolation prizes of Tk5,000 each.

The prize money will help the students further develop their careers by enabling them to buy kitchen tools and equipment, enrol in advanced culinary training or invest in their professional aspirations in the hospitality and food and beverage industries.

The High Commission will hold a second round of the Singapore Cooking Competition in September, giving another group of NHTTI students the opportunity to learn authentic Singaporean cuisine, compete for prizes and strengthen culinary and cultural ties between Singapore and Bangladesh.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chargé d’affaires Mitchel Lee of the Singapore High Commission praised the participants for their enthusiasm, creativity and dedication throughout the programme. He also thanked Jaheda Begum, head of culinary training at NHTTI, for her efforts in making the event a success.

The Singapore High Commission said it would continue promoting people-to-people ties through cultural diplomacy and organise initiatives celebrating the shared appreciation of food, culture and friendship between Singapore and Bangladesh.
