State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Thursday stressed the need for a highly skilled and professional diplomatic corps to effectively advance Bangladesh's national interests under the "Bangladesh First" policy.
She highlighted this need while addressing the
certificate awarding ceremony of the Refreshers' Course for Directors 2026 as

The state minister underscored the importance of
equipping diplomats with deeper expertise in key national priority areas,
including climate change, transboundary water sharing, migration, free trade
agreements, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, and the Rohingya issue, among
others.
Speaking as the special guest, Secretary (East and
West) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Md Nazrul Islam highlighted the
importance of the refresher course in strengthening the professional
competencies of mid-career diplomats.
He said the training programme equips diplomats with
the knowledge and skills required to address evolving global and diplomatic
challenges.
Rector of the Foreign Service Academy Muhammad Abdul
Muhith delivered the welcome address.
He said modern-day diplomats must be analytical,
adaptable, composed and ethical, reaffirming the Academy's commitment to
producing highly professional diplomats through continuous training.
The Foreign Service Academy organises the
Refreshers' Course annually as part of its continuing professional development
programme.
This year, 13 directors of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs successfully completed the course and received certificates at the
ceremony.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and the Foreign Service Academy, along with resource persons, were also present
