US Embassy clarifies stay limit for visitor visa holders

The US Embassy in Dhaka said on Saturday that holding a US visa does not guarantee entry into the United States, urging travellers to comply strictly with visa rules.

In a message posted on its official Facebook page, the embassy said the duration and conditions of entry are determined by an immigration officer at a US port of entry.

It warned that visitors who overstay their authorised period or engage in activities not permitted under their visa category could face a permanent ban on travelling to the United States in the future.

“It is your responsibility to use your visa correctly,” the embassy said.

The embassy also clarified that the length of time an international visitor is allowed to stay in the United States is decided by the immigration officer upon arrival—not by the expiration date of a B1/B2 visitor visa.

Travellers have been advised to check the “admit until” date on their I-94 form online (i94.cbp.dhs.gov) to confirm how long they are permitted to stay in the country.
