Russian House in Dhaka, in collaboration with the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and North South University, organised a vibrant musical evening on the university campus on Thursday.

The event, held to mark Independence Day of Bangladesh and the “Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia”, drew more than 800 students and faculty members, creating a lively platform for cultural exchange and artistic appreciation.

The programme began with a speech by Alexandra Khlevnoy, who highlighted higher education opportunities in Russia, particularly the Russian Government Scholarship (Quota Programme), and outlined academic pathways available to Bangladeshi students. She also underscored the longstanding ties between Russia and Bangladesh, dating back to the country’s independence, and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in education and culture.

Following the formal segment, the audience was treated to an engaging performance by The Dhaka Melodiya Project. The repertoire included Waltz No. 2 from Suite for Variety Orchestra by Dmitri Shostakovich and Vocalise Op. 34 No. 14 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, alongside Russian folk songs Korobeiniki and Kalinka. The evening also featured “Nostalgie” by Alexey Kozlov and his band Arsenal.

Blending classical heritage with contemporary musical styles, the performances left a lasting impression, making the evening a memorable cultural experience for attendees.
