Sri Lankan govt seeks flood relief from expats, Bangladeshis

The Sri Lankan government has asked people living in Bangladesh, including Sri Lankan expatriates, to send financial assistance for relief efforts following the deaths of nearly 480 people in devastating floods.

The government has asked assistance through its High Commission in Dhaka, says a press release issued by the mission.

Sri Lankans residing in Bangladesh, Sri Lankan community organizations, Bangladeshi citizens and foreigners have been requested to extend their support to the national disaster relief efforts.

“Individuals or organizations in Bangladesh who wish to contribute to Sri Lanka's relief operations and support the rebuilding of affected communities may deposit their donations into the following bank accounts of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka. All contributions will be directly transferred to the authorized Government bank account designated for national relief operations,” the press release said.

Donors have been requested to email the transaction details along with a copy of the bank receipt, including the donor's name or organisation name, to [email protected] for the issuance of an official acknowledgement receipt in accordance with the official prescribed format.
