The Russian Navy ship, Gremyashchy, arrived at Chattogram Port on Monday on a five-day courtesy visit to Bangladesh.

The Chief Staff Officer, on behalf of the Commander of the Chattogram Naval Area, welcomed the ship’s officers and sailors, followed by a performance from a well-trained naval band, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.

Russian military attachés in Bangladesh and senior local naval officials were present to greet the visiting crew.

Earlier, Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Umar Farooq welcomed the Russian vessel as it entered Bangladesh waters.

During the visit, the ship’s commander and a delegation including Russian military attachés will hold courtesy meetings with the Commander of Chattogram Naval Area, Commander of BN Fleet, Area Superintendent of Dockyard and Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority.

The visiting officers and sailors will lay wreaths at Redkin Point at Bangladesh Naval Academy, visit naval ships, bases, the BN Ashar Alo School for children with special needs and several historical sites in Chattogram. Bangladesh Navy personnel will also tour the Russian ship.

The visit will allow both navies to exchange professional knowledge, observe operations and explore future training and cooperation, the ISPR release said.

The ship is scheduled to leave on 21 November.
