National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is set to host his Bangladeshi counterpart, Khalilur Rahman, in New Delhi next week amid ongoing tensions between the two neighbouring countries. Rahman will be in India to lead the Bangladesh delegation at the Colombo Security Conclave, scheduled for November 19–20.
Rahman’s visit marks a significant step toward strengthening regional
cooperation and maintaining security dialogue between India and Bangladesh. The
interim government in Dhaka has placed regional engagement at the forefront of
its priorities, and Rahman’s participation in the conclave reflects a
continuation of these efforts.
The Colombo Security Conclave, chaired by Doval, will convene NSA-level
officials from the Maldives, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka. The forum will focus on
maritime domain awareness, counterterrorism strategies, and coordinated
disaster response mechanisms, key areas of concern for regional security
architecture.
The high-level meeting comes at a sensitive moment, as India-Bangladesh
relations remain strained following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina. Rahman’s visit is expected to open space for important bilateral
discussions on shared regional security challenges and avenues of cooperation.
