The interim government has nominated Niaz Ahmed Khan, vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka, as Bangladesh’s next ambassador to Denmark, according to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Officials confirmed that a formal agreemo (request for diplomatic approval) has already been sent to Copenhagen. Once Denmark grants its consent, Khan’s appointment will be finalised, paving the way for his assumption of diplomatic duties in the Scandinavian nation.
A senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “All necessary procedures regarding Khan’s appointment have been completed. We are now awaiting Denmark’s formal approval.”
Earlier on 5 November, Niaz Ahmed Khan met with Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain. When asked about his possible ambassadorial appointment after the meeting, Khan declined to comment, saying that he had not visited the adviser to discuss the matter.
Niaz currently serves as the 30th vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka. A distinguished academic and development researcher, he has previously worked with various national and international institutions in education, governance, and environmental studies.
Once approved, Khan will succeed the outgoing Bangladeshi ambassador to Denmark and is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, climate resilience, sustainable development, and trade between Bangladesh and Denmark.
