‎A Dhaka court on Saturday sent Mahmudur Rahman Jony, former assistant professor of Public Health and Informatics at Jahangirnagar University, to jail in a case filed over murder during the July Uprising.

‎Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdullah Mohammad Saleh passed the order on Saturday after police produced the accused before the court, seeking a seven-day remand.

‎Jony was detained from Savar area in the capital at around 3am on Saturday.

‎According to the case documents, Joint Convener of Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra Dal Ariful Rahman Rasel joined the July movement on 5 August 2024 in the Savar area.
