Bangladesh have suffered a major setback ahead of their opening match in the tri-series, with captain Litton Das ruled out of the entire tournament due to a right hip injury.
Vice-captain Towhid Hridoy led Tigers at the toss against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi on Saturday in Litton’s absence, while all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also missed the match due to fever.
The wicketkeeper batter had attended Friday’s pre-series press conference and the trophy unveiling ceremony alongside the captains of Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
Saturday’s match was set to mark the start of his full-time tenure as Bangladesh One Day International captain, but the injury has delayed that milestone.
Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed Litton’s withdrawal in a video message, saying the batter reported discomfort in his right hip joint on Friday.
“The team arranged an MRI scan, which revealed a problem in the affected area. The 32-year-old underwent a fitness test on Saturday but failed to meet the required benchmark,” Bayjedul mentioned. “As a result, Litton will not be available for this series,”
The left-hand batter Parvez Hossain Emon will replace him in the Bangladesh squad.
