Nagad has assured its customers that there is no security risk associated with the recent Google Play Protect warning displayed on some users' devices.

The alert appeared on Thursday night while the mobile financial service provider was updating the security system of its app as part of an earlier announced service enhancement initiative, said a press release.

According to Nagad, the warning may have been triggered by an update in Google’s own security policies, which led to confusion among some users who received the alert.

Upon being informed of the issue, Nagad’s technical team immediately contacted Google, and both sides are now working swiftly to resolve the matter.

Nagad, a mobile financial service under the Bangladesh Postal Department, reaffirmed that the Nagad app is fully secure and compliant with all required standards.

The company also alleged that certain groups are attempting to exploit the situation by spreading misinformation on social media to harm Nagad’s reputation and business. It urged customers not to be misled by such propaganda.

Nagad emphasised that its app does not store any personal information from users’ mobile phones and remains completely safe to use.
