The government has raised the procurement price of Aman paddy to Tk35 per kg for the 2026-27 fiscal year, aiming to ensure fair prices for farmers. It has set a target to procure 300,000 tonnes of paddy and 550,000 tonnes of rice during the season.
The rice procurement target includes 500,000 tonnes of
parboiled rice and 50,000 tonnes of non-parboiled rice. The government has
fixed the procurement prices at Tk49 per kg for parboiled rice and Tk48 per kg
for non-parboiled rice.
According to the decision, Aman paddy procurement will
begin on 14 November 2026, and continue until 28 February 2027.
Rice procurement will start on 1 December 2026, and
continue until 28 February 2027.
Food Minister Afroza Khanam announced the decisions on
Sunday after a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) at
the conference room of the Department of Information in Dhaka.
She said the paddy procurement price had been fixed by
adding a fair profit margin to farmers’ production costs, with the highest
priority given to protecting their interests.
“The government’s main objective is to ensure that
farmers receive fair prices for their produce,” she said, adding that the
decision was taken after reviewing the country’s overall food situation,
production costs, farmers’ interests and market conditions.
The minister also said the government would purchase
paddy from farmers even if the quantity exceeded the officially set procurement
target.
“No farmer should be turned away on the pretext that
the procurement target has been fulfilled. If a farmer comes to sell paddy to
the government, arrangements must be made to purchase it,” she said.
Food State Minister Md Abdul Bari, Food Secretary Abu
Taher Md Masud Rana, Directorate General of Food Director General Md Jasim
