Garment workers have returned to their workplaces in Savar, Ashulia, Gazipur and Narayanganj after several days of labour unrest, with most factories reporting workers' attendance today as the situation in the country's readymade garment (RMG) sector gradually returns to normal.

The return to work comes as factories began paying workers' October wages on November 5, with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) hoping that most establishments would complete the payments today.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu expressed hope that most factories would clear their wage payments by the end of the day.

Inspector General of Industrial Police (Additional IGP) Md Israil Howlader told BSS that the situation in the industrial zones had started returning to normal, with workers joining their respective workplaces in most factories.

He said authorities at one or two factories in Ashulia had temporarily suspended operations following some problems, prompting workers to leave the premises peacefully.

No incidents of protests, clashes or road blockades were reported in the industrial zones today, he added, describing the overall situation as normal.
