Modern agricultural machinery, smart irrigation systems and food processing technologies from 12 countries are on display at the 14th International Agriculture Technology Fair 2026.

The fair opened at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka on Thursday.

The three-day exhibition, jointly organised by the Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogura, and Limra Trade Fairs and Exhibitions, features around 250 companies showcasing technologies aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and reducing production costs.

The fair will continue through Saturday.

State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam inaugurated the exhibition, stressing the need to modernise agriculture through advanced machinery and technology to lower farmers’ production costs and improve their livelihoods.

He said the government was working to ensure greater recognition of farmers’ contributions while improving facilities and support for agricultural researchers.

Highlighting the benefits of modern irrigation, Shahe Alam said underground pipeline-based systems had already helped reduce water consumption by around 40%.

He also called for reducing excessive use of chemical fertilisers and encouraging the adoption of organic alternatives.

Turning to energy security, the state minister said the government had decided to drill 52 new gas wells to address shortages that had built up over the past two decades.

He said gas reserves had already been discovered in Bhola, Noakhali and Titas.

Shahe Alam also outlined plans to establish starch processing plants using surplus potatoes from northern Bangladesh, saying the initiative could reduce dependence on imports and save foreign currency.

The government was also considering reopening Bogura Airport to facilitate direct exports of potatoes and vegetables to international markets, he added.

RDA Director General Abdul Majid Pramanik and Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Dr Rafiqul E Mohamed attended the inaugural ceremony.

They emphasised the importance of bringing research-based agricultural innovations to farmers at the grassroots level and using technology exhibitions to promote sustainable agricultural development.
