BRAC Bank has partnered with Niketan Welfare Society to introduce Bangla QR payments for service charges and purchases at local businesses, reducing the need for cash transactions.
The service was inaugurated at Niketan on Monday by Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, managing director and CEO of BRAC Bank; Juwel Mazumder, joint director of Payment System Department-1 at Bangladesh Bank; and Prof Dr Md Abul Bashar, president of Niketan Welfare Society.
Residents can initially use Bangla QR to pay for the society’s buggy service. The facility will gradually be extended to shops, grocery stores, pharmacies and other businesses in the neighbourhood, according to a press release.
Mohammad Helal Uddin, senior vice president, and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury Arif, general secretary of the society, along with other members and bank officials, attended the inauguration.
Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the bank had introduced Bangla QR at more than 75,000 merchant points nationwide. The Niketan initiative is part of efforts to expand digital payments at the community level.
Bangla QR enables customers to pay by scanning codes through supported banking and mobile financial services applications.
