A delegation led by Dr Bärbel Kofler, parliamentary vice minister and state secretary to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany, has visited the factory of Abul Khair Steel Melting Limited (AKSML).
During the visit to the factory in Chattogram’s Sitakunda
on Monday, the delegation was briefed on AKSML’s modern production
technologies, its Guinness World Records achievement, and various initiatives
in environmentally friendly industrial development, said a press release.
Imran Momin, chief executive officer (CEO) of AKSML,
welcomed the delegation.
The German delegation included Dr Bärbel Kofler and
Dr Rüdiger Lotz, ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh. Senior officials from the
German development cooperation agency GIZ Bangladesh, the German development
bank KfW, and the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) were also
present.
AKSML produces steel by combining modern Electric
Arc Furnace (EAF) technology, advanced engineering, and high-speed rebar
rolling technology. Through its high production capacity and use of modern
technologies, the company has set a new benchmark for technological excellence in
Bangladesh’s steel industry.
In recognition of its production capacity, AKSML recently
achieved a Guinness World Records title.
As part of its efforts to conserve natural resources
and promote environmental responsibility, AKSML has installed a solar power
system, adopted a fume treatment plant to prevent air pollution, and introduced
initiatives to reuse rainwater instead of relying on groundwater.
The German parliamentary state secretary highly
appreciated these environmentally friendly initiatives during her visit to the
factory.
She also praised AKSML’s initiatives to promote
women’s participation and empowerment in the steel industry. She highlighted
the importance of such initiatives in increasing women’s participation and
advancing their empowerment in Bangladesh’s industrial sector.
Bärbel also gained a positive impression of the
progress and modernisation of Bangladesh’s steel industry.
