Bangladesh
is on track to leave the group of least developed countries (LDC) and advanced
to the rank of emerging economies after three years from now, said Commerce
Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir on Tuesday.
Ahead of this
deadline, the country’s citizen services and infrastructural capacity must be
improved, he added.
The commerce
minister made the remark after inaugurating the construction works for a station
of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) at Taltala area in Sylhet city.
Population
and urban density in the Sylhet city is increasing gradually, necessitating the
introduction of new citizen and urban services in the city, the minister said.
Bangladesh
has secured a three-year extension of the LDC graduation period from the UN,
which would be effective from the previous deadline of 24 November 2026.
