Janata, Agrani, BASIC banks get new MDs

The government has appointed new managing directors (MDs) and chief executive officers (CEOs) for state-owned Janata Bank PLC, Agrani Bank PLC and BASIC Bank PLC, while reinstating Sonali Bank PLC MD and CEO Md Shawkat Ali Khan.

The reversal came seven days after the government issued an order cancelling Shawkat Ali Khan’s contractual appointment for the remainder of his term.

On Monday, the Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance issued separate notifications through its State-Owned Commercial Banks-1 branch. The notifications were signed by Deputy Secretary Afroza Akter Riba.

According to the notifications, Md Mahbub Alam, additional managing director and chief risk officer of Southeast Bank PLC, has been appointed MD and CEO of Janata Bank.

Meanwhile, Md Nurul Huda, deputy managing director of Janata Bank, has been appointed MD and CEO of BASIC Bank, while Noor Mohammed, deputy managing director of Jamuna Bank, has been appointed MD and CEO of Agrani Bank.

All three officials will serve on a contractual basis for three years from the dates of their joining.

In a separate order, the government withdrew its earlier decision to terminate the remaining contractual tenure of Sonali Bank MD and CEO Shawkat Ali Khan.
