Bangladesh is participating in the Barcelona Textile Expo 2026, Spain's major international textile trade fair, with the aim of expanding its export market, strengthening trade ties with European buyers and promoting the country's textile and apparel products.
The three-day expo began on Wednesday at Fira de Barcelona
Montjuïc in Spain and will continue until 23 October, said a press release.
With financial support from the Export Promotion Bureau
(EPB) and management by the Bangladesh Embassy in Madrid, 14 Bangladeshi
companies are participating under EPB's supervision, while four others are
taking part independently.
The EPB has also set up a stall displaying and distributing
export-related publications, journals and documents.
More than 300 leading manufacturers and exhibitors from 12
countries, including Bangladesh, Spain, Italy, Japan, Turkey, South Korea,
India and China, are participating in the event.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Spain Masudur Rahman, ndc,
inaugurated the Bangladeshi Pavilion on Wednesday morning.
EPB Director Mohammad Wares Hossain, Bangladesh Commercial
Counsellor in Spain Ruhul Kuddus, First Secretary (Labour) Mahid Al Hasan,
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Director Md
Abdul Hannan, participating exhibitors, leaders of the Bangladeshi community in
Spain and representatives of the event organisers attended the inauguration.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Ambassador Masudur Rahman
highlighted the significant contribution of the country's readymade garment and
textile industries to the national economy, particularly in export earnings,
employment generation and economic growth.
Referring to the growing presence of Bangladeshi products in
the Spanish market, he said Spain had surpassed Germany to become Bangladesh's
largest export destination within the European Union.
He said the development reflected Bangladesh's manufacturing
capacity, product quality and the confidence of international buyers in
Bangladeshi products.
The ambassador also said Bangladesh was working under the
leadership of the current government to strengthen economic stability, enhance
investor confidence and consolidate international economic relations.
He noted that positive developments in sovereign credit assessments and economic reviews by international institutions, including Moody's, reflected efforts to improve the stability and resilience of the country's economy.
Emphasising Spain's role in expanding Bangladesh's export
markets and diversifying its export basket, he called for further strengthening
trade and commercial relations between the two countries.
The expo aims to facilitate direct engagement among
international buyers, wholesalers, designers, manufacturers and suppliers to
strengthen business networks across the global textile industry.
A wide range of products, including woven and knitted
fabrics, readymade garments, home textiles, yarn and fashion accessories, are
being showcased at the fair. Bangladeshi garment products have drawn interest
from visiting buyers, according to the press release.
The event also features a special seminar titled "Trend
Intelligence in the Age of AI," conducted by renowned fashion trend
consultancy Peclers Paris.
The expo is expected to provide Bangladeshi suppliers with
opportunities to establish direct business connections with European fashion
brands and retailers, explore new markets and secure export orders.
The Bangladeshi companies participating in the fair include
Day Fashion, AMC Knit Composite Ltd, Sara Fashion, Bengal Glory, Concord
Garment Wear, United Creation, AMC Apparel, Glimmer Fashions Design Apparel,
Jeans and Jacket, Ahava Composite, NWRMT, Manha Attire Composite and Get World
