Industries, Commerce and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said on Friday that fostering innovative thinking, talent and new ideas is essential to increasing productivity.
“Productivity is a continuous process with no
final limit. Its main goal is to achieve greater and better-quality output in
fewer working hours,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while speaking
as the chief guest at a discussion and prize-giving ceremony organised at BCIC
College in the capital’s Mirpur on the occasion of National Productivity Day
2026.
He also visited an innovation exhibition held
as part of the programme.
The minister said productivity is a culture
and countries that have embraced it have made continuous progress.
“An individual achieving greater output in
fewer working hours is the essence of productivity,” he said, adding that
productivity is always relative and there is always scope for further
improvement.
Praising the innovative thinking and talent of the college students, Muktadir said their ideas and creativity at the exhibition had inspired him.
He said many of the ideas had yet to be
turned into machines or practical products, but could serve as important foundations
for future innovations.
“We will later sit with those who have been recognised for their good innovative ideas. Experts will assess which ideas are commercially viable and can be financed as startups,” he said.
The minister said the government wants to
support young people in turning their innovative ideas into reality. If any student comes forward with a good idea, the government
and relevant institutions will stand by them, he added.
Muktadir also assured the college of
necessary support to transform it into a modern and model educational
institution.
He said initiatives would be taken to ensure
modern technology, CCTV cameras, projectors and other necessary facilities for
students.
Later, the minister distributed prizes among
students who won in different categories of the innovation fair. He had earlier
visited various stalls at the fair.
Director General of the National Productivity
Organisation Md Nayeb Ali chaired the event. Industries Ministry Secretary
Abdun Naser Khan, BCIC College Principal Colonel Dr Md Mokshed Ali, guardians
and students also spoke at the programme.
